Gloria Dei’s Fire – A Journey of Faith, Restoring, and Re-story-ing

The 10th anniversary of Gloria Dei’s fire is an opportunity for us to see ourselves as part of God’s larger purpose through themes of Fire …Exile… Community… Restoration… and Windows. In addition to viewing images and hearing about the fire, rebuilding, and ministry then and now, we’ll look at several passages in the Bible that help situate our personal and congregational journeys of faith within the larger narrative of God’s redemptive mission for the world that is ultimately centered in Christ’s death and resurrection. In this session, we consider passages of “re-story-ing” where

… fire is not only a destructive force but also a sign of God’s presence.

… exile is not only a time of grieving but also of shaping identity and purpose as God’s people.

… the Christian community not only shares solidarity in suffering but also in the risen life of Christ.

… faithful restoration involves renewing relationships with God and others as much as rebuilding a physical structure.

… windows invite us to consider how we are being seen and how we see one another, our neighbors, and God active in the world.
