Special Services at Gloria Dei

Christmas Eve – 7:00 p.m.

Gloria Dei invites you to make worship a part of your Christmas this year. We celebrate the gift of Christ through music and candlelight, carols and Holy Communion. The 7:00 pm service is broadcast live and re-broadcast Christmas morning at 10:00 a.m.  on WDSM Radio, AM 710. The video livestream is also recorded and can be viewed again.

Reconciling in Christ Sunday – 4th Sunday in January

Reconciling in Christ Sunday is an annual event at Gloria Dei. As a congregation that formally welcomes people of all sexual orientations and gender identifies, we set aside one Sunday in January to celebrate and mark our ministries of welcome. Often with a guest speaker for adult forum or a guest preacher during worship, this special Sunday is hosted and organized by Gloria Dei’s Welcoming Ministries.


Camp Sunday

Gloria Dei is a member congregation of Voyageur’s Lutheran Ministries. Once a year, we are happy to welcome VLM staff to be part of our Sunday morning.

Through intergenerational Sunday School and camp songs in worship, we celebrate God’s gift of outdoor ministry and support opportunities for kids to attend summer church camp, as part of this wonderful ministry in God’s great Northwoods!

Lake Superior Sunday – 3rd Sunday in July

For several years, Gloria Dei has participated with other faith communities around Lake Superior in setting aside a Sunday to reflect in worship on the gift of Gods’ creation, water, and ecosystems that characterize the Lake. In addition to a special worship service, we also have a potluck with fish from the fishing trip, and a mid-year Parish Conversation with updates on various ministries and projects.


Blues Service – 2nd Sunday in August

“Eternal Life is in the words you sow. Come on, Preacher, let the Gospel roll,” we sing in the Gospel Acclamation on Blues Sunday, held on the weekend of Duluth’s Bayfront Blues Festival. A combination of new music written for the service and old favorites, the blues will touch your hands, feet, and heart in surprising ways.
